Sound Therapy: “If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.”-Nikola Tesla
The theory behind sound therapy is that all matter is energy that is in a constant state of vibration. When this vibration is disrupted in any way, it can send the body into distress, causing illness. By using the vibrational frequencies of sound, we can assist our bodies in balancing our energies thus healing our bodies.
Sound therapy has been used for thousands of years. Pythagoras taught his students that sound and music could be used to rid the body of stress, fear, and anxiety. The Aboriginals of Australia were the first culture known to have used sound, via the didgeridoo, as a healing tool. It is said the Aboriginal people used sound to heal broken bones, muscle tears and other illnesses. The ancient Egyptians used chanting to heal, as did the Greeks. Tibetan Monks have used signing bowls for generations. Music, sound, and frequency can soothe the soul, calm the mind and help us heal on many levels.
Abd’el Hakim Awyan, was known to have studied structures in ancient Egypt. He found that many of the structures, including some of the pyramids, were built to maximize the effects of sound during ceremonies. In The Pyramid Code, a documentary film, Awyan claimed that all the pyramids were created for harmonic healing. He further stated that they used the sound of the water running through the underground tunnels to heal illness. “Every chamber within the pyramid has a specific harmonic, replicating the harmonics of the cavities of the human body. Sound healing techniques were then used to restore the patient’s body to the correct harmonics.”
In the Power of Healing, Joshua Leads states that “everything has a sound, a vibration all its own.” This is called resonance and it is the frequency at which an object vibrates. Our bodies have its own natural resonance, or frequency.
Researchers are now beginning to study the effects of sound waves and their specific influence on human cells. Jeffrey Thompson, D.C. has theorized that because the human body is 70% water, and that since sound travels more efficiently through water, it has the potential to stimulate the entire body, thus beginning healing at the cellular level.
In an article published in 2013, Mona Liza Chanda and Daniel J. Levetin found that sound was a powerful regulatory tool for mood and increased one’s well-being. They further found that sound activates all the neurochemical systems for “reward, motivation, pleasure, stress, arousal, immunity, and social affiliation”.
Fabien Maman, a French composer and bioengenerist found that the human voice was able to destabilize uterine cancer cells.
As more scientists continue to research the effects of sound and frequency on the human body, we should see this therapy become more mainstream.
Sound therapy is beneficial to our overall energetic health, as it utilizes both sound and frequency to assist in raising and aligning one’s own vibrational frequency and energy to a more beneficial level, thus strengthening and repairing one’s electromagnetic field. This can be done through the use of music tuned to a certain frequency, turning forks, singing bowls, etc. Sound can help lower stress and anxiety, promote emotional and physical healing in the body, and can even assist in raising one’s libido. Additionally, it can be used to treat PTSD, depression, Autism, behavioral problems, headaches, fatigue, motivation, focus and social anxiety. Overall, it is a great tool to assist us in improving and maintaining our energetic health.
